Nick in Reverse
November 2023. In a rare sighting on camera, here is Nick picking up firewood chunks for splitting from along the driveway. Looks like a couple didn’t get ejected prevously and stayed in the tractor bucket. Oh, by the way, always look where you are going!
Enough Firewood Cut
October 2023. OK, so once you get started cutting, sometimes it’s difficult to stop! Too bad I didn’t get started in the spring. There’s no snow yet int the forecast, but that’s not to say it’s not just around the corner. So, time now to split it and stack it. No time to relax yet…
Five New Hens
October 2023. The new chicks were finally evicted from the upstairs shower and out into their own digs, the keyword being “out” as in outside! Sadly one died a month or so – why we don’t know, sometimes that just seems to happen when raising chickens. The remaining five are healthy and are now laying.
From Chainsaw to Firewood
October 2023. This video starts with my trusty Stihl chainsaw (of course), then we see the wood pile and finally the camera pans to a pile of recently cut firewood. Each year we vow to get this done in the spring, but this year is apparently no different in outcome. Any similarity in syntactical structure with “From Tyrone to Sheep” (below) is entirely intended.
Goatie Nature Walk
October 2023. Heidi and Jodi go with Robin on a little nature walk. They start at the firewood log pile and are having a great time eating fallen tree leaves. Hmmm, for some reason I’m craving potato chips right now!
From Tyrone to Sheep
September 2023. This video starts with Tyrone (of course), then we see Joey the Caique Parrot and finally the vista over the septic where the sheep are hanging out. Each year we fence off the area behind the house so the sheep (aka “ground crew”) can do their lawn mowing duties.
Hemlock for the Goats
June 2023. Heidi and Jodi really love to eat hemlock. Sounds bad, but it’s the tree-kind, not the poisonous, flowering plant variety that sent Socrates into immortality. If goats could climb trees (and why not, after all some can climb almost vertical cliffs) they’d probably eat all the hemlocks first. Well, go get them before the wooly aldegid kill them anyways…
Happy Spring!
April 2023. Spring is really in the air now. The apple tree is showing signs of life again, after a pretty-heavy pruning. It’s only kept around for the Wrens and other birds – we never get a single apple from it. Everything is growing and, if you listen carefully, the wrens are already back!
Shower with Chicks
April 2023. Tyrone really should turn his attention to supervising this one. Where’s the best place for raising some new chicks? Why in the spare shower, of course!
Tyrone Having a Stretch
April 2023. Tyrone apparently doesn’t have a care in the world as he stretches out in front of the wood stove. For now he’s safely still in wood burning season, but in about a month’s time his favourite passtime will have to change. Enjoy it while you can buddy!
Swamp Peepers
April 2023. Turn your volume up. Here we are at the swamp that makes up the back of the property. The “peepers” are in full force – hope it doesn’t turn cold again and freeze on them!
New Peeps
March 2023. Robin wasn’t going to get any more chickens, but here they are anyway, the new peeps! The flock of hens is getting somewhat long in the…beak, so it’ll proably be a good idea to get some new layers. Of course, you never keep your chickens inside your house, do you? Oh, it’s Ok really, as long as Tyrone is supervising!
