Back in the Field Again
April 2022. Having been kept on a diet of hay and dry feed all winter long, here the sheep and goats go back out into the field (pasture, decaying debris field with ongoing teraforming – whatever you want to call it) in search of some live greens. They’ve got a lot of work to do to remove the rushes and other undesirable vegetations, but we’re sure they’re going to do a great job this year! So far the rushes mown down last year (see 2021 video) look like they might not be coming back so vigorously – good!
Out For a Walk With the Goats
March 2022. It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen…no, wait, wrong narrative. Robin with our two goats, Heidi and Jodi, were out for a walk on the property…and it was in March They actually made it as far as the “Auger Hole” down by the swamp, a walk of nearly 1/2 mile.
Walking on the Ice Swamp
February 2022. Part of our propery is a large swamp, situated to the south. Here we took a walk on the very thick ice present there in a frosty February.
Two Old Chickens
January 2022. Out two oldest hens spent the coldest month of winter in the mud room. With nighttime temperature sometimes dipping below zero degrees F, we thought it would be just too cold for them to stay with the rest of the flock (for whom the cold is no problem). Bella (left) is ten this year and Marie’s Girl is not far behind, although we’re not sure of her exact age.
